The coating of metal, particularly steel, to provide a protective, aesthetic, and functional surface using glass-based enamels is a common but advanced technology.

Prince develops and manufacturers our own bespoke frits to achieve high-performing, reliable, and repeatable coatings. We are experts at frit formulation and characterization – from controlling the raw material mixtures to measuring the performance of the enamel-metal interface and the surface properties of the coatings.

We can develop porcelain enamels for the most complex of applications – from everyday cookware to challenging, extreme environments. Our investment in research and development will continue to keep pace with ever-changing industrial patterns and government regulations.

As a manganese expert with decades of processing experience, Prince stands out in our ability to identify and to source manganese raw materials for our mineral and hydrometallurgical plants that produce a wide variety of manganese oxides and manganese salts. Our processing know-how allows us to achieve the chemical purity and physical properties required for optimal performance.

Glass and glass-based products form a key part of Prince’s product offering. More than half of our laboratories focus on glass or frit development.

In frit development, we can optimize a number of properties including application temperature, thermal expansion, color and chemical durability to meet specific application requirements. We are completely integrated from initial formulation to mass production.

Beyond frit, we apply our glass knowledge to the formulation and coloring of glass. We can simulate melt conditions and develop unique formulations specific to customer glass melt configurations.

Prince leads in the development of a wide range of ceramic products designed to improve specific elements of metallurgical processing. Our understanding of the production of alloys through the casting and shaping of metal combined with our metallurgists and ceramic engineers work together allows us to offer tailor-made solutions.

Areas of key expertise include the control of molten metal with ladle sands designed for specific operating conditions, the protection of carbon-based refractories from oxidation, the lubrication and protection of metal surfaces during forging, forming and extrusion; additives and coatings for metal casting.

As well as ceramic material development we also have in-house capability to replicate the forging process with our own press, and through partner relationships access to foundry and casting processes.

Prince has the expertise to provide coloring products for all aspects of heavy clay products. At multiple locations we have color matching and development centers to support regional end users. We develop and produce our own glazes and engobes, bespoke to the end application. We translate color market trends into an annual color forecast to provide guidance in brick and roof tile coloration.
